Why is your rate higher than other competitors in the local area?
The base rate is higher than many other local stablehands because of a variety of reasons.
The Barn Chick is a licensed business with GST, Liability Insurance, Running Costs and on top of it all The Barn Chick is fully qualified(Diploma of Horse Industry Studies: Performance Horses and a Diploma of Veterinary Nursing ECC)- unlike many of the competition in the local area, ensuring your furry friends are in the best of care.
The Barn Chick also issues invoices with multiple payment options which means you can see what services have been rendered as well as having a tax copy for your records. Payment is easy and can be COVID friendly with electronic payments available.
The Barn chick is experienced and confident with all horses of all shapes and sizes. The Barn Chick has 13+ years of experience with horses, as well as prior experience managing a large agistment centre.
The Barn Chick does not panic if circumstances turn out to be not so perfect- horses are unpredictable and dangerous. Insurance is a blessing as accidents can happen to anyone at anytime. The Barn Chick has the experience to handle all situations- The Barn Chick has handled problem horses prior and understands some horses worry more than others
The Barn Chick will turn up rain, hail or shine.
The Barn Chick has her own transport and is not reliant on public transport or other means to go from job to job. This means a higher reliability and peace of mind that the horses will be cared for
The Barn Chick uses appropriate penalty rates to pay her staff for their time, insurance, training which unfortunately does mean double time will; apply on Sundays as a result. Most places seem to keep the same fee per day which The Barn Chick does not feel is fair on her staff taking their Sundays off from life and family. The Barn Chick pays her staff a higher wage than most, as a result, the staff are paid higher than the average stablehand to show how much we adore them and respect them- defiantly cannot go without them!
The rate is like a bottle of wine, you are paying for quality over quantity. I will endeavour to do my best service possible at every job with the priority on the quality of the service and welfare of the horse.
What type of Horses do you handle?
I am comfortable with horses of all shapes and sizes from mini’s to big 18hh Horses. This is inclusive of every disciple from Western to Eventing to the Trail Horse. They all deserve the utmost care and respect. Please as a gentle reminder as stated in the Terms & Conditions, it is not The Barn Chicks responsibility to train your horse in basic handling when offering daily care services (feeding, rugging, mucking out).
This is best done by a professional trainer which can be recommended to you free of charge of whom would be best suitable by The Barn Chick. Please note The Barn Chick accepts no responsibility or liability for the outcomes of any recommendations made regarding a 3rd party such as a trainer or other equine professional
Horses will be cared for rain, hail and shine. However, if the horse proves to be deemed ‘too dangerous’ to perform the service i.e. rug a horse that is unable to be handled or caught by kicking and rearing, the owner shall be contacted and informed that the service was unable to be completed.
The Barn Chick will endeavour to the best of her ability to complete all services and allows additional half hour blocks for these more difficult cases. She will at all times perform ‘best practises’ when handling horses such as encouraging polite behaviour and leading the horses safely, etc
Who is The Barn Chick Insured With?
Many Insurances in Equine only cover for Non-Income Earning Activities so it is important to double check with who you are hiring if they are covered by insurance as accidents can and do happen unfortunately and it is always best to be safe rather than sorry.
The Barn Chick is covered by Affinity for General & Products Liability Insurance Policy at all times to ensure the best care of humans and horses alike. Please contact The Barn Chick for any queries related to insurance at TheBarnChick@outlook.com.au .

What is this GST on my invoice?
“The goods and services tax (GST) is a broad-based tax of 10% on most goods, services and other items sold or consumed in Australia. Businesses collect GST for the government whenever they sell products and services and pay this revenue to the Australian Tax Office (ATO). The government then distributes this money to our states and territories to pay for public services and infrastructure, such as hospitals, roads and public schools.
The GST was introduced on 1 July 2000 and replaced a range of state and federal taxes, duties and levies. GST is ultimately paid by consumers who are the end users of these goods and services”
Information copied from: A Guide to GST and How it Applies to Your Business (squareup.com)
The Barn Chick chooses to show the GST on the invoice so you can see exactly where all the billing comes from.
Many businesses choose to ‘absorb’ the GST into their service costs so you will often never actually see a field called GST in your receipts- a great example is in the supermarkets when you do your grocery shop. All the items you buy will automatically have the GST calculated into the cost of purchase by the customer.
